King's Cross Walking Tour

King's Cross: Radical Regeneration

We are looking forward to running this regularly scheduled architectural tour. I am Ross Logie, an architect and founder of Seeing Architecture. I am delighted to be your guide for this walk.

The story of the redevelopment of King's Cross, from an industrial wasteland to an enticing urban quarter is fascinating. King’s Cross was designated an ‘opportunity area’ in the 2000 Camden Council Unitary Development Plan, and again in the 2004 London Plan to provide substantial new office space to meet growing demand in the Capital. The overall master plan is by Allies and Morrison. It designated building massing and form as well as maximum building envelope (unusual in London).

Following years of consultations and strategic planning, planning permission was granted by Camden council for most of the site in 2006. Since then, the development has been comprehensive.

Some of the buildings seen and described on our tour:

King's Cross Station
One St Pancras Square
Coal Drops Yard
Gasholders
Aga Khan Centre
